Creative Director – Game Designer

A new and exciting role has become available for a Creative Director to join their organisation in Auckland and take full responsibility of leading the whole studio game design department.  The teams work closely together and are encouraged to share ideas, maintain quality standards, meet deadlines and to participate in seminars and workshops.

Working very closely with headquarters and lead game designers overseas, you’ll be entirely responsible for the local team, and some of your responsibilities will be streamlining game design processes and ensuring that these processes are followed according to the required standards.  You’ll also work closely with production managers, producers and other key people in the business.  You’ll also organise seminars and workshops, show your creativity and proficiency in all aspects of game design. You are passionate about games, know the classic console video games and understand who their audiences are.

You’ll need the following qualifications and experience:

  • A relevant tertiary degree would be preferred
  • At least 6 years experience as a Game Developer for core gameplay on DS or PSP is essential – you’ll need to be proficient in all aspects of game design
  • At least 3 plus years in a leadership role is essential with the proven ability to motivate, collaborate and consult with everyone across a business
  • Experience with Photoshop, Flash, 3D Studio Max, Unity or Blitz, etc. is essential
  • Solid C++ experience essential
  • Prototyping experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly motivated, highly organised, sound work ethics and quality driven
  • Ability to work under pressure and to some really strict deadlines
